Loving others
I can't say this idea was completely my own, but I want to reiterate what I heard this past weekend.
Loving others when they don't "deserve" it. Our church had a completely amazing sermon on it and I was convicted to my core.
The basic message is this: how often to we come in contact with people who are just downright unlovable sometimes? Bosses? Coworkers? Family? The general population? I see the memes on social media daily about not liking people and not "people-ing." Is that how we want to spend our one and only life on this Earth? Avoiding people, holding grudges, being angry? Anger is definitely a huge issue for me lately. Angry with life, situations, angry with certain traits that I possess. Angry about my anger and short temper. It's never-ending. And honestly, we all have people who bother us, infuriate us, annoy us, etc.
Do you know how much joy and energy is stolen from us when we continue to live life that way? It's exhausting. How much better would this world be if we learned to forgive because WE are forgiven. Love even when others don't love us back. Share kindndess even to the unkind. I struggle with this. A lot. This week, our pastor challenged us to take a step in the direction of loving people we have conflict with. Loving the unkind. I watched a video not long ago of a lady who was in the drive thru and taking a bit too long for the person behind her. They were yelling mean things, honking, and being impatient. Instead of retaliation, like she wanted to do, she paid for that person's meal! How amazing and what a great example of how we should be living and spending our lives.
Something I need to work on this week and honestly every week.
How about you? What can you do this week that will take you a step further in this kindness journey?
