Quarantine-2020
People. Wow. Just wow. Crazy time, huh??
I don't know about all of you but I am feeling realllllll weird lately. The craziest thing is that this hasn't really been much different than my daily life. The kids and I are home more than not aside from karate, church, and some play dates (thanks to home school). But the weight of everything has me feeling so off. I'm not worried about my family (don't let me regret saying that).... but worried for others. Of course worry isn't healthy..... but how can I not? I feel the weight of others around me. My nurse friends out there like they're at war! They are on a battlefield. Working crazy hours, coming into contact with those with this virus... not seeing their families, and afraid to bring the virus home to them. But still, there they are, showing up and doing their thing.
Teachers. Goodness, the teachers. The school teachers AND the daycare teachers. All heroes in my book! Public school teachers are at home, reaching out to others to find the best way to communicate with their kids during this crazy time. Thinking up activities, assignments, things to keep them engaged and continue their thinking. Daycare teachers- How could we forget them? A friend pointed out that they are still in session, watching/cuddling/hugging/teaching the children of these people out there dealing with this virus. AMAZING.
Churches- Our church has taken things online. We already had an online service as well but they have taken this to the next level. They have offered help to those who need it. Grocery gift cards, restaurant gift cards, etc. Seriously blows me away. They are continuing with teaching the kids as well. Online lessons for them, meetings for the leaders to help reach out to the kids... the kid's department even has pre-made crafts to go along with the online kid's lessons. I mean really. This is simply awesome.
I, of course, will not forget all the police, fire department, truck drivers delivering goods, PEOPLE WORKING AT THE GROCERY STORE!!!! Holy COW, do we think the world of you! Ok, some people aren't treating you that way but you are a real hero in my book as well. There are so many more that I am sure I'm forgetting and I promise I'm not doing that intentionally. My mind is just jumbled and my heart is hurting for people out there.
All of this to say that we are living in a strange time right now. A lot of you, your world has been shaken. Your life has been turned on it's side. Your schedule has gone out the window (that's me).... But I can see that some are doing their best to make the most of it. It's truly encouraging to see that in this day. I know it's hard. I totally get that you'll have really rough days and it wont seem like you're doing it "right." But you are. You're doing you're best and you're trucking along. That's amazing!
For those of you distancing to keep yourself and others healthy, YOU ROCK! For those of you on the front lines literally battling your way through this? YOU ROCK! For those of you who have had your world flipped and everything feels uncertain- YOU ROCK! For those of you who just can't wait for this to all be over so we can move on along with our lives- YOU ROCK! Your continued cooperation is literally saving lives. Look at that! We are all life savers. Who knew??
Keep trucking along. You've got this. Lower your expectations a little and use this as a pep talk. We can all do this together. Let's keep playing our part, rocking our role (stole that phrase from our church), whatever that may be. We will make it through this, and hopefully it will change us all in a better way. Hopefully we have all learned to appreciate those around us a little more. To look at time a little differently. To appreciate our friends and family a little more. This time in our lives can be scary and uncertain, but dang it, let's grow from it! Grow through what you go through.
Stay strong my friends. You've got this.
